"Star Trek: First Contact" by Playmates Toys, Inc.

Star Trek: First Contact remains my favorite of the Next Generation movies, and is my second favorite overall in the series (behind The Undiscovered Country).  The First Contact set was a bit of a disappointment, for several reasons.  First, Playmates produced the figures in 6" scale to set them apart from the rest of the line.  It may have had a solid marketing logic behind it, but it made the line incompatible with everything else!  Secondly, while the main cast figures turned out pretty well, the guest characters lacked any useful articulation.  Zefram Cochrane's legs turned...beneath the knee!  His legs were static, but somehow you were supposed to appreciate two points of articulation that let you point his feet wherever you wanted.  Lily was practically stuck in a hand-on-hip pose.

Finally, the line disappointed because it omitted any cool variants (such as Picard in his commando vest, or Borg Data)...and the most important character in the whole film, the Borg Queen!  In Playmates's defense, the Queen was later issued in the 5" scale, and a Borg Data was planned that never surfaced.  Anyway, onto the list!
